Afro Perms??? [PICS]
I just had to giggle when I caught wind of this.
They have created a chemical process that can change straight hair into kinky afro hair. Not wavy - not curly. I'm talking straight up kinky!
I first learned about a process many years ago being used in Japan to kink up hair. The device looked similar to a tattoo gun, would grab the end of a small section of hair, and rapidly shake and wind it up, until it turned kinky. From there, people could get dreads or cornrows.
This new process is extremely popular in South Korea and Japan, and is known as the Reggae Perm or Asian Afro Perm. In order to create kinks, new hydrogen bonds need to be formed in the hair. Using small perming rods during the chemical process, stylist are able to create a new shape - thus the kinky hair.
It is so ironic that these straight-haired Asian youth can find beauty in something so many blacks and African-Americans are trying so desperately to erase. - YB

Thanks for stopping by!! Aren't those kids so cray?? I love it too!! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Very interesting, had no idea this was possible, I love the way those twists look on her!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Ms. Freda Fro! And double thanks for joining the community! :)
DeleteHer twists are definitely bangin'. It is so amazing the things that can be done these days!!!!!
Where can I get it done
ReplyDeleteMy point!
ReplyDeleteWow. I never heard of this process. Ive seen pictures, but didn't know that this is what they were doing.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the hair process nay be real the picture of the young lady with the afro, bow, and afro pick earrings has been photo shopped. The real picture is of Rachel Stewart entrepreneur.
ReplyDeleteHow ridiculous! lol !!!! why not just be you! and I don't believe it!
ReplyDeleteYou just be you and don't worry about what other people are doing.
DeleteHow to be black without respecting the histories and live experiences of black people....things that make you go hmmmmmmm...
ReplyDeleteTRUE STORY! THANK YOU!
DeleteDon't be so easily flattered. It is mimicry. It is a temporary fad. These people would never actually give up their cultural/historical selves. Plain and simple.
ReplyDeleteWhy should they?
DeleteThey're going for a look, not to be something other than themselves.
I don't think most black women who by these Asian weaves are trying to be Asian.
You mean the way so many of us choose to give it up? At least somebody else is starting to honor the things many of us hate about ourselves the most. If we truly own our natural beauty, others will follow. When the Black Panthers began to make the impact they did in the seventies, many whites began to embrace our hairstyles by afroing their hair. Black barbers knew how to do this using laundry booster. I approve this. You can honor the culture in this way, they are not making fun in my opinion. There is an entire subculture in japan that exclusively embraces black culture from the US.
ReplyDeleteThe Black Panthers were sleeping with white women and made lighter skin black women the face of the Movement while their darker skin sisters worked in the mail room. Next
DeleteWhat's wrong with having sex with white women?
DeleteDon't act like Japan doesn't have racism against black people. I'm Blasian and from Japan. Do you know how RARE it is for a Japanese to be with a black person? My parent's had to leave Japan because I was having my life threatened for being half black. So much ignorance from people in these comments who have no real experience with anything they're defending or talking about. Appropriating culture isn't the same as appreciating it. I'll copy your style, but would never date/marry one of your people, but I'd have sex with them is something OFTEN said by many a Japanese, especially the men. Darker skin is shunned in Japan, even darker Asians are shunned and not considered worthy. Talk about opening one's mouth about a culture they don't know anything about. Don't talk about the workings of a factory you're not employed in. Opinions from a lack of experience doesn't cut it. The love so many black people think is expressed to them in Japan, tells me how VERY LITTLE those that think that's the case know about Japan and Japanese culture. No one is going to be actively racist to your face in Japan, it's cultural anathema, it's about keeping harmony and piece and they will smile in your face while talking all types of hate about you behind your back to their family and closest friends. Learn the culture before thinking there's some sort of appreciation.
Deletethe title of kinky hair is super offensive... to have an afro or braids doesn't mean u have kinky hair... it actually means u have the best type of hair... u aren't limited to a certain hair style... if u are black and u own this page... u really need to re-think your blog title
ReplyDeleteUmm.....To me, kinky hair is not offensive. It is what I have. I do not say my hair is curly or coily; it is kinky.
Deletethey want our hair styles and dress like us but wouldn't dare want our troubles from just being "US"
ReplyDeleteliking everything about black people except balck people>tell me when the flattery begin.

ReplyDeleteIt's no different than black people relaxing our hair. Let people do what they like!!!!
ReplyDeleteBlack people relaxed their hair to be accepted by white people. You don't know anything about what black people endure and your words betray your ignorance. And before you say anything, yes I have an Asian name, I'm Blasian, and I'm always seen as black before I'm seen as Asian. If you're not black, sit this one out because you have NO idea why some black people straighten their hair, and it's not because of a lack of love for their own hair, it's because of Eurocentrism.
DeleteAnd just a little FYI, many ethnic groups and races of people straighten their hair, it's not just black folk...lol!
Our hair is awesome. Love it..
ReplyDeleteI don't find the word kinky offensive because that is what my hair does. I find the words nappy and bad hair offensive. Our hair isn't bad, just different. It burns me u up when I hear people say they are going to marry other races so their children won't have nappy hair. If another culture wants to embrace what do many of us want to shun, then I say go ahead.
ReplyDeleteIt's called natural hair something that we all was born with.Such as we all have different hair types it's nothing to....We all have different hair to we was born with our on natural hair it's nothing to it.It's nothing to it can we have something to ourselves
DeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteIt's not that serious guys!!! Just like how you are offended by them copying you others are saying the same thing when you wear extensions. And love the look.
ReplyDeletePerms are to make hair strands curly...relaxers make hair strands straight but not everyone knows the difference, race doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteI think it's fantastic! it's a compliment and a major step forward. Most of the time our hair texture is frowned upon and we're made to hide it and taught to hate it. I think this is progress. It'll be beautiful to have our children grow up and not face the "good hair, bad hair" discrimination we did. I can live in a world where Asians want our hair; I love it!!

ReplyDeleteI think it's both beautiful and amazing. People should be able to do whatever they want with their hair. White people with afros or black prole with relaxers who cares. We are all just people. Our hair should never define us. Unity is what we need in this world.
